About Habitat for Humanity:
Habitat for Humanity is an international, non-profit, Christian housing ministry dedicated to eliminating poverty housing. In response to God’s love, Habitat for Humanity creates partnerships between cities, organizations, churches, and low-income families to construct and sell affordable housing.
Habitat also raises awareness of critical housing issues, motivated by the belief that everyone needs adequate housing as a foundation for a better life. Habitat homes are sold at cost, through a no-interest mortgage to very low-income families.
What We Do:
- Habitat uses donated land and finds organizations to underwrite about 75% of the construction costs.
- Habitat designs the homes and screens, selects, and supports the future homeowner.
- Habitat raises funds for materials and construction costs and leads volunteers through the construction process.
- Future homeowners must work side-by-side with volunteers (called “sweat equity”) and go through home-ownership training.
Ways To Get Involved:
- Donate materials to go in the homes or to sell in the Habitat ReStore
- Donate funds or land
- Experienced builders and unskilled volunteers are needed for construction
- Share your bilingual skills
- Attorneys, auditors, accountants, architects and planners are needed throughout the process
